ECDL Foundation at the European Commission’s Digital Agenda Assembly - Ireland

ECDL Foundation presented at the third Digital Agenda Assembly (DAA) on progress achieved so far in the delivery of the Commission’s Grand Coalition for New Jobs pledge, specifically elements relating to the launch of the new ECDL programme. Read more.


New ICDL Promoted at eLearning Africa 2013 – Namibia

eLearning Africa’s theme for 2013 was ’Tradition, Change and Innovation’ - this theme links very well with ICDL Africa’s activities for the year ahead with the launch of ’New ICDL’ into the African market. Framed by the concept of lifelong learning, candidates can become certified in new modules, build their unique ’ICDL Profile’, or choose a recommended ICDL Profile option. Read more.


ECDL Part of ’Women’s Education for Employment and Better Future’ Project – Republic of Serbia

Women are the largest vulnerable group in the labour market of the Republic of Serbia. Although they account for over half the population of working age, they are a minority among the participants in the labour market. The ECDL programme is a vital component in a programme to equip disadvantaged women with essential skills for the workforce. Read more.


ICT Skills for Regional Capacity Building: ICDL National Operator Receives EU Grant

Advanced Quality Assurance Systems Limited (AQAS), the ICDL National Operator for Jordan, has received a grant of more than €65,000 from the EU. This grant will enable AQAS to build capacity in Jordan by developing national ICT skills, and by actively raising the career potential of its own employees. Read more.


ECDL as Part of the ‘Step Forward’ Project for Unemployed Minorities – Croatia

The main aim of the ‘Step Forward’ project is to support and develop the employment opportunities of the long-term unemployed, who belong to national minorities, in the City of Vukovar. The project’s total value is €117,051.26, financed by the European Union through the grant ‘Establishing Support in Social Integration and Employment of Disadvantaged and Marginalised Groups’. Call for Young Technicians and Engineers – Germany

According to Thomas Michel, CEO of DLGI, the ECDL National Operator for Germany, and National Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Honorary Ambassador: “STEM communities all over the world pursue the same goals: they foster higher education and demand greater efforts to create young talent. Focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, they bring together interested teachers and provide them with a wide network and comprehensive resource materials.” Read more.


ICDL Colombia Presents on Digital Literacy at XIV International Virtual Educa Conference – Colombia

ICDL Colombia and ICDL Latinoamérica participated in this high-level regional conference with the presentation ‘International Standards in Digital Skills: their invaluable contribution to the XXI century education’ within a category that highlighted the key role that digital skills have as a base for the use of ICT tools for both educators and students. Jailhouse .doc: Digital Literacy in Prison Education

Michael Santos is a published author of several non-fiction books, which are assigned texts on university courses. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University in Georgia and a master’s degree from New York’s Hofstra University. He has written for websites including Forbes, Huffington Post, and his website gets thousands of unique visitors a day. This doesn’t sound so remarkable until I add that Santos accomplished all this while incarcerated in United States federal prison. And during that time, he never had access to a computer. Digital Agenda Scoreboard 2013: 50% EU Citizens Still Have No or Low Computer Skills

According to the European Commission’s ‘Digital Agenda Scoreboard 2013’, half of the European Union’s citizens have no or low computer skills, and more than half of the European workforce considers that their current ICT skills level is insufficient for changing jobs. Country profiles are also available for 31 European countries with key indicators including those on ICT skills and ICT in education. Read more.


‘Gamifying Learning Experiences: Practical Implications and Outcomes’ - The University of Alcalá, Spain

This research paper examines how the principles of gamification – which are currently being applied successfully in the commercial sector - could also be used in web-based education as a tool to increase student motivation and engagement. Read more.
