25,000 PEOPLE TO RECEIVE ICDL IN ZIMBABWE AND ZAMBIA BY 2016

ICDL Africa and the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) have signed a new agreement appointing CSZ to manage the ICDL programme in Zimbabwe, as well as to conduct development work (on behalf of ICDL Africa) in Zambia. The agreement runs until 2016 and aims to deliver digital skills to at least 25,000 individuals during that time, bringing the total number of individuals reached by the partnership to date to over 100,000. SPANISH UNIVERSITY TO OFFER ECDL CERTIFICATION

The Postgraduate School of the UAB (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona) has signed a collaboration agreement with ATI (Asociación de Técnicos de Informática -Association of Computer Technicians) in order to facilitate UAB students to obtain ECDL certification.

UAB has almost 50,000 students enrolled and is one of the most recognised universities in Spain. Preparation courses for ECDL certification will be offered as distance learning, combining individual work with participation in virtual forums. Read more.


ICDL BECOMES A KEY COMPONENT TO DUBAI’S ‘SMART SUMMER 2014’

ICDL GCC Foundation signed an MOU with Dubai Education Zone for the launch of the first summer camp named as ‘Smart Summer 2014’ in Dubai, UAE, that will be held during August 2014. Five hundred underprivileged youths are expected to enrol for this summer camp. Parents will also be encouraged to register, at no additional cost, and gain the international certification in IT Security and Cyber Safety. Read more.


ICDL ENABLES WOMEN IN SINGAPORE TO GO BACK TO THE WORKFORCE

Mendaki SENSE, a reputable ICDL Accredited Test Centre and WDA Approved Training Organisation, have successfully completed a Back to Work Women project. 300 women who had been out of work for a period of three months, completed a series of training and certification programmes which commenced in 2013. To date, 277 women have passed ICDL Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Presentation modules and 60% of the candidates have already found a job. Read more.


ICDL PROJECT FOR THE FAMILIES OF MARTYRS AND MISSING

The The ‘Ministry of Care for the Families of Martyrs and Missing’ in Libya has launched an ICT skills and English language training project for 800 Candidates and ICDL has been chosen as the ICT certification for this project.

The Project is fully funded by the Ministry and considered to be a pilot project for a larger series of projects starting in 2015. The project is expected to last for two months in training centers that are distributed in twenty two cities around the country. Read more.


INTERNATIONAL ONLINE WORKSHOP ON ICT AND DIGITAL SKILLS IN EDUCATION

On 20 February, ICDL Colombia, ICDL Latinoamérica and ECDL Foundation, held an international online workshop on ICT and digital skills in education.

Participants of the global ECDL / ICDL community were invited to discuss the impact and relevance of ICT and digital skills in schools, their experience with the certification programme and examples of good practice of working with ECDL / ICDL in their schools. Read more.


ICDL NATIONAL OPERATOR AND KEY UNIVERSITIES IN PALESTINE PARTICIPATE IN ICT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Advanced Quality Assurance Systems (AQAS), Limited, held an ICT awareness campaign in the West Bank, Palestine from 27 February until the 7 March 2014.

During this campaign, meetings were conducted with Professor Ali Zaidan, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Dr. Safa Naseredeen, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies. Meetings with the Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Deans, Heads of Departments, and students of six universities also took place. The importance of training and certification in the ICT sector was discussed, and the role that ICDL can play in enhancing skills to an international standard was emphasised.

The campaign created lots of awareness and interest in the ICDL programme and has enabled a further spread of the programme in Palestine. Read more.


ICDL AFRICA TEAM VISIT RWANDA AND UGANDA

The ICDL Africa Team visited both Rwanda and Uganda earlier this month as part of the expansion of the ICDL programme in East Africa. ICDL Africa is recruiting Referral Partners in both territories who can be a local representative for ICDL Africa, dealing directly with key stakeholders and ATCs in the market.

Both trips proved very useful in terms of market analysis, research and the opportunity to meet with our ATC’s and see the programme in action. The team will be back in Uganda in May to attend the 9th Annual eLearning Africa Conference. Read more.
